KeyChain Pay + HSBC: Visa Signature, the HK$100,000 cap, and when to switch to EveryMile

Platform rates verified Oct 2026 HSBC promo page fetched 13 Oct 2026

KeyChain Pay turns Hong Kong monthly rent into an HSBC card charge. This page is the setup for the route the calculator models: Visa Signature on Reward+ Home at HK$2.78 = 1 mile until the HK$100,000 annual spend cap, then EveryMile at HK$5 = 1 mile. It is not the four-path comparison in KeyChain Pay vs RentSmart vs Rently.

Estimates only — not financial advice. Confirm the live fee in the KeyChain Pay app and the card terms before you pay. Rates on renttomiles were verified Oct 2026 and can change. This guide does not name an overall winner.

Red Hot registration, on or before 31 October 2026. HSBC’s Red Hot Rewards of Your Choice page (fetched 13 Oct 2026) says cardholders are required to register on or before 31 October 2026. The promotional period on that page is 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026. Set the allocation to Home in Reward+ if you want the Visa Signature rate below. That registration is not extra miles in the recurring table.

The modeled switch. Stay on Visa Signature while the year’s gross charge is inside HK$100,000. Then use EveryMile. At HK$10,000 a month the cap arrives in month 10. The year, using both cards, is 40,428 estimated miles at a fee cost of HK$0.053 per mile.

Who this path is for

This fits if you hold HSBC Visa Signature, can set Reward+ to Home, and can put later months on HSBC EveryMile once the HK$100,000 cap is used. The calculator’s year assumes both cards.

It is a weaker fit when another rail matches the cards you already have:

The landlord typically receives a bank transfer and does not need to sign up. A beginner view of how card rent works is the pay rent and earn miles guide.

Quick facts

The earn rows are the renttomiles model, rates verified Oct 2026. The registration row is from HSBC’s page, fetched 13 Oct 2026. Re-check both before you pay.

Setup checklist

Steps follow the route the KeyChain Pay column already models, plus the registration date on HSBC’s page. They are a checklist, not a copy of the app. Confirm each screen before you pay.

  1. Open KeyChain Pay and register the tenancy the app asks for, so the landlord is paid by transfer. The calculator models a 1.8% fee. Confirm the live fee in the app before the first payment.
  2. Pay with HSBC Visa Signature. In Reward+, set Red Hot Rewards of Your Choice to Home. The column shows that setting as HK$2.78 = 1 mile under the cap.
  3. Register on or before 31 October 2026. HSBC’s page (fetched 13 Oct 2026) is the source. The promotional period there is 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026.
  4. Keep HSBC EveryMile for the months after the cap. The modeled switch is HK$5 = 1 mile. If you only have Visa Signature, read the lower figure on the calculator. Do not use the dual-card year.
  5. Each month, the model counts miles on rent plus the fee. At HK$10,000 the fee line is HK$180.
  6. When the year’s gross charge reaches HK$100,000, follow the split month, then EveryMile. At HK$10,000 the cap month is month 10. Do not multiply the first month by 12.
  7. Open the calculator at your rent and read fee cost per mile on the KeyChain Pay column. The worked example below uses HK$10,000.

The cap and the switch

Two earn rates, one fee. Visa Signature on Reward+ Home is HK$2.78 = 1 mile while the year’s gross charge is inside HK$100,000. EveryMile is HK$5 = 1 mile after that. Miles are counted on the gross charge. The 1.8% fee is part of that charge, and it is also the fee in fee cost per mile.

The cap month is not a clean handoff of whole dollars. The calculator splits that month into whole-number percentages of the gross charge, the same way the KeyChain Pay column describes the slider. Months before the cap stay on Visa Signature. Months after it stay on EveryMile.

Red Hot registration is separate from those recurring miles. Winter and summer Reward+ windows are separate too. The comparison guide notes that Visa Signature rent via KeyChain usually counts toward those windows, and EveryMile usually does not. Check Reward+ for your own tiers. The seasonal timing insight on the homepage is the short version. Neither window is inside the table below.

Visa Signature alone, using the calculator’s “Only have HSBC Visa Signature?” note, is 36,890 miles at HK$10,000. Badges use the both-cards year, 40,428 miles, not that lower figure.

Those columns are independent. None of them is an overall winner. At this rent KeyChain Pay shows 40,428 estimated miles and fee cost per mile HK$0.053. Estimated net yield is HK$1,883, valuing miles at HK$0.10 — a comparison assumption, not cash paid to you — then subtracting a year of fees. RentSmart is HK$160 a month and 20,000 miles. Rently Card is −HK$304. Rently FPS Premium is 30,000 miles at HK$0.092 per mile.

Decision checklist

Lean toward KeyChain Pay with Visa Signature and EveryMile if:

  • You already hold HSBC Visa Signature, and you can add EveryMile after the cap.
  • You can set Reward+ to Home and register while the Red Hot page still allows it.
  • You have checked fee cost per mile at your own rent, not only at HK$10,000.

Lean toward another path if:

  • You hold the Standard Chartered Cathay Mastercard. Read RentSmart + SC Cathay.
  • You want Max Miles from a bank transfer. Read Rently FPS in Rently Card vs Rently FPS.
  • You only have Visa Signature. Use the lower miles note. Do not quote the both-cards year.
  • You only have a Citi card. PayAll is not on this calculator.

Common mistakes

  • Multiplying the first month by 12. The cap changes the later months.
  • Staying on Visa Signature after the cap when you also hold EveryMile. The model switches.
  • Quoting the both-cards year when you only hold Visa Signature.
  • Putting Red Hot registration, or a winter or summer window, into the recurring miles.
  • Treating HK$2.78 = 1 mile as the rate on EveryMile, or on every HSBC card.
  • Comparing fee percentages alone. Fee cost per mile uses the miles the route actually earns.

Frequently asked questions

How do I earn miles paying rent with KeyChain Pay?
KeyChain Pay charges your HSBC card and pays the landlord by bank transfer. The calculator counts miles on the gross charge (rent plus the fee), not on base rent alone. Visa Signature on Reward+ Home runs at HK$2.78 = 1 mile until the HK$100,000 annual spend cap. After that, the modeled year switches to EveryMile at HK$5 = 1 mile. Confirm the live fee and earn rules in the KeyChain Pay app and with HSBC before you pay.
What does HK$2.78 = 1 mile mean on Visa Signature?
It is the calculator’s display for HSBC Visa Signature with Reward+ set to Home, under the cap. That line is HK$2.78 = 1 mile, applied to the gross charge. It is the under-cap rate only. It is not the EveryMile rate, and it is not a rate for every HSBC card.
What is the HK$100,000 cap on KeyChain Pay?
The KeyChain Pay column stops the Visa Signature Home rate once a year of gross charges reaches HK$100,000. The calculator’s note says the cap resets each calendar year. At HK$10,000 a month the model reaches it in month 10. That month is split between the two cards. Estimated miles for the year follow the 12-month route. They are not 12 times the first month.
When should I switch from Visa Signature to EveryMile?
Switch when the year’s gross charges reach the cap, if you also hold EveryMile. At HK$10,000 a month that is month 10: 82% HSBC Visa Signature (HK$8,348) and 18% HSBC EveryMile (HK$1,832). Later months use EveryMile at HK$5 = 1 mile (2,036 miles / month in this example). The year is 40,428 estimated miles and fee cost per mile HK$0.053.
What if I only have HSBC Visa Signature?
The calculator’s “Only have HSBC Visa Signature?” note is 36,890 miles at HK$10,000 a month. That lower figure is not the one used for badges. The 40,428 mile year assumes both Visa Signature and EveryMile.
What fee does the calculator use for KeyChain Pay?
1.8% on the modeled HSBC residential Visa/Mastercard route. At HK$10,000 a month that is HK$180. Rates verified Oct 2026. Confirm the live fee in the app. A year of that fee divided by 40,428 estimated miles is fee cost per mile HK$0.053.
When does HSBC Red Hot registration close?
HSBC’s Red Hot Rewards of Your Choice page, fetched 13 Oct 2026, says cardholders are required to register on or before 31 October 2026. The promotional period on that page is 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026. Set the allocation to Home in Reward+ if you want the Visa Signature rate this guide models. That registration does not add miles to the recurring table.
Does the landlord need to register on KeyChain Pay?
No. The landlord typically receives a bank transfer and does not need to sign up. Check KeyChain Pay for the current payout timing so rent is not late.
Does renttomiles pick KeyChain Pay as the winner?
No. At HK$10,000 a month, with the launch promo off and Rently FPS on Premium, KeyChain Pay shows 40,428 estimated miles, fee cost per mile HK$0.053, and estimated net yield HK$1,883. That net yield uses the calculator’s HK$0.10 per mile comparison assumption. It is not cash paid to you. RentSmart’s modeled fee is lower, at HK$160 a month. Badges are one dimension each. renttomiles does not pick an overall winner.
Does renttomiles process my rent?
No. renttomiles is an independent calculator only. It does not process rent payments or give financial advice.
