Pay rent and earn miles in Hong Kong
Platform rates verified Oct 2026
Yes. In Hong Kong you can often pay monthly rent with a credit card through a rent-payment platform, even when the landlord only accepts a bank transfer. You pay the platform. The platform pays the landlord. You may earn Asia Miles or HeyMax Max Miles, and you pay a service fee for that rail.
This page is the beginner overview for paying rent and earning miles. It names KeyChain Pay, RentSmart, and Rently, then sends you to the rent-to-miles calculator. It is not the full path comparison in KeyChain Pay vs RentSmart vs Rently, and it is not the maths lesson in the fee cost per mile and estimated net yield guide.
Estimates only — not financial advice. Confirm the live fee in each app before you pay. Rates on renttomiles were verified Oct 2026 and can change. This guide does not name an overall winner.
How paying rent by card works
- Sign up and give the tenancy and landlord payee details the app asks for.
- Choose card payment, or FPS on Rently’s bank-transfer rail.
- The platform charges your card or bank, including its service fee.
- The landlord is paid by bank transfer or FPS on that platform’s stated timing. Read that page. This guide does not set a processing time.
- Miles post under the issuer’s or HeyMax’s rules. Confirm exclusions first.
The landlord usually does not need to register or accept credit cards. renttomiles does not process the rent. It is an independent calculator.
The platforms on the calculator
Fees below are the ones modeled on renttomiles as of Oct 2026. KeyChain Pay, RentSmart, and Rently publish their own schedules. Confirm in the app before you pay. Older names can still appear in search. This page stays with the four paths the calculator models.
KeyChain Pay
You pay by card. The landlord is paid by bank transfer. The column models an HSBC miles route, including the annual spend cap, at 1.8%. Suited if you already hold HSBC miles cards. Read the KeyChain section.
RentSmart
The app charges a card and pays the landlord. The column models the Standard Chartered Cathay Mastercard at HK$6 = 1 Asia Mile, counted on base rent, with a 1.6% fee. Suited if you hold that card or plan to. Read the RentSmart section. Signup steps sit in Insights. This page is not a card application checklist.
Rently Card
The card fee is 2.8%. The model adds Asia Miles on the gross charge to HeyMax Max Miles on base rent. Suited if you want both stacks and accept the higher fee. Rently Card vs Rently FPS compares the two Rently rails.
Rently FPS
You pay from your bank. The column earns Max Miles on base rent and does not model a miles-card earn. Premium, the tier the calculator opens on, is 2.3%. Suited if you prefer a bank transfer. The FPS tiers are on that same page.
The service fee is part of the miles
More miles is not automatically better after fees. The percentages above are the calculator’s modeled fees as of Oct 2026, not one typical rate for every card. Confirm the live fee in the app. Fee Cost / Mile is lower when each mile costs less in fees. Est. Net Yield / Year values miles at HK$0.10 — a comparison assumption, not cash back — then subtracts a year of fees. A negative figure means the fees beat that assumed mile value. The formulas are in the fee cost per mile and estimated net yield guide and the comparison methodology.

- Most annual miles: KeyChain Pay

Those badges are independent. None of them is an overall winner. At this rent, Rently Card’s estimated net yield is negative (−HK$304) on base rates, even with 30,560 estimated miles.

Start from the card you already hold
- HSBC miles cards: start with the KeyChain Pay column. KeyChain Pay vs RentSmart vs Rently walks through that path.
- Standard Chartered Cathay Mastercard: look at RentSmart or Rently Card, then Rently Card vs Rently FPS if Rently is the platform you are considering.
- No miles card, or you will only pay from the bank: start with Rently FPS on that same page.
- Citi PayAll is not a column on this calculator.
- If you want a cashback ranking, this site will not provide one. renttomiles is miles-first.
Timing, promos, and common mistakes
Do not start so close to the rent due date that the platform’s stated window misses it. Each platform publishes its own timing. Read that page.
Promos expire. Homepage Insights notes Standard Chartered Cathay applications from 1 October to 31 December 2026 (13,000 bonus miles if approved by 21 January 2027) and a first-cycle RentSmart fee waiver through 31 December 2026. HSBC Red Hot seasons and the Rently first-288 toggle are there too. Verify any date on the official page. A signup code does not change the comparison numbers.
- Ignoring the fee and counting only the miles.
- Using launch-promo miles when you are not in that cohort.
- Assuming every card earns on every rent platform. Check the terms. This page does not keep a denylist.
- Treating a referral code as if it changed the calculator. It does not.
- Copying an older fee table without checking the app and the rates line on renttomiles.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I pay rent with a credit card in Hong Kong?
- Yes, often, through a rent-payment platform. You pay the platform by card. The platform pays your landlord by bank transfer or FPS. You may earn miles, and you pay the platform’s service fee. The landlord does not have to take the card.
- Does my landlord need to accept credit cards?
- No. On these platforms the landlord typically receives a bank or FPS transfer and does not need to sign up or accept cards. Check the platform you choose for its payout rules and timing so rent is not late.
- Which platforms let me pay rent by card for miles?
- renttomiles models KeyChain Pay, RentSmart, Rently Card, and Rently FPS. The first three can charge a card. FPS pays from your bank. renttomiles does not process the payment and does not pick an overall winner.
- What is KeyChain Pay / RentSmart / Rently?
- Hong Kong rent-payment platforms between you and your landlord. Modeled fees on renttomiles: KeyChain Pay 1.8% (HSBC miles route), RentSmart 1.6% (Standard Chartered Cathay), Rently Card 2.8%, Rently FPS Premium 2.3%. Confirm the live fee in each app.
- Will I earn Asia Miles or Max Miles?
- It depends on the path and your card. The calculator models Asia Miles from HSBC on KeyChain Pay and from the Standard Chartered Cathay Mastercard on RentSmart and Rently Card. Rently also models HeyMax Max Miles on base rent. Not every card earns on every platform. Confirm exclusions before you pay.
- Are there fees to pay rent with a credit card?
- Yes. On the calculator the modeled fees are KeyChain Pay 1.8%, RentSmart 1.6%, Rently Card 2.8%, and Rently FPS Premium 2.3% (rates verified Oct 2026). That is not one typical rate for every card. Confirm the live fee in the app.
- Is paying rent with a credit card for miles worth it?
- Only if fee cost per mile and estimated net yield still look acceptable for your rent. At HK$10,000 a month, with the launch promo off and Rently FPS on Premium, Rently Card’s estimated net yield is −HK$304. A negative figure means a year of fees is larger than the miles valued at HK$0.10. That is an estimate, not financial advice.
- What is fee cost per mile / estimated net yield?
- Fee Cost / Mile is a year of platform fees divided by miles for the year. Lower is better. Est. Net Yield / Year values those miles at HK$0.10 and subtracts a year of fees. HK$0.10 per mile is a comparison assumption, not cash paid to you. The fee cost per mile and estimated net yield guide walks through the formulas.
- Does renttomiles process my rent?
- No. renttomiles is an independent calculator only. It does not process rent payments or give financial advice.
- Does renttomiles pick a winning platform?
- No. renttomiles does not pick an overall winner. Badges are per dimension, such as lowest fee, most miles, highest estimated net yield, and lowest fee cost per mile.
- Why this page?
- It explains how paying Hong Kong rent by card can earn miles, which platforms the calculator models, and why the service fee matters. Then it sends you to the calculator. It is not a cashback card list and not a full platform bake-off.
